This hand forged Broken Back Seax has EN45 steel blade which has an unbelievably sharp edge. For reenacting, LARP and outdoor use it a seriously handy knife. It would be a great addition to your Viking or larp gear. Use it also as a carving knife, cooking knife or anything else you might be up to in the historic camp or woods.

The handle is made from burl which is a hard resilient material perfectly suited to outdoor use. It is supplied with a high quality vegetable tanned leather sheath, with tooled design, hand stitched.

The blade is inspired by finds from Christchurch Place, Dublin, Ireland. The sheath is decorated with Viking dragon based on design from Isle of Man.

  • Blade: EN45 steel
  • Handle: burl
  • Sheath: vegetable tanned leather, brass fittings
  • Dims: total length 380mm, blade length 210mm, width 30mm, thickness 5mm

Broken back seax blades have a very distinctive and stylised geometry, where the blade is thicker at the broken back and tapers towards the tip and back towards the handle. The Anglo Saxon broken back seax is the iconic tool and weapon of the Saxon. And found almost exclusively in the UK. Historically the blades have lots of subtle differences in profile but often share communality with the broken back part of the blade being the thickest.
